So, it's no secret that I'm not exactly the most organized person on the planet.
Maybe "really messy" would be a better way to describe me.
Sadly, it's not just me.
It's my whole family.
And that's not a joke.
So what's a mom to do?
I mean, seriously, what AM I to do?
I'd like to make my home inviting, but it's next to impossible when I have everyone's stuff lying around all over the place. Or I have 50,000 things that need a home, but don't have one. Or the dog rips up someone's stuff, and said person doesn't want to clean it up.
I would LOVE to be the world's most organized person, and if I had the money and about a week without my kids, it could be done!
But, I don't. And that will never happen.
So . . . There you have it.
So that's our home.
Lots of mess, and no one that wants to clean up after themselves.
It is extremely frustrating.
I've tried everything:
Throwing stuff away doesn't work. Because "what if we need it someday?"
Selling things or giving them away doesn't work because they never seem to make it out of the house.
And when I DO get a room clean, it's messy again in no time.
So, this is a plea to all my readers out there.
HELP. MY HOUSE IS TAKING OVER MY SANITY!!!!
Seriously, any advice?

I deal with clutter more than I deal with mess, and it drives me nutty! Fortunately, they do care about their things and will put them away and threats to throw things away DO work here for the most part. I just wish I could get them to understand that the clutter or "organized chaos" drives me just as crazy as a huge mess does.
I suppose there is no real way to get them to care other than lead by example with your own stuff. If that doesn't work, well...not sure what to tell ya. I can force my family to clean-up a mess or help with the clutter if I must, and sometimes offering a reward helps, but sometimes there is nothing you can do. It's sad, but true. :(
You could try a reward system to get a habit going, though. Worth a shot. Like make a chart with the things you want them to do on either a daily or weekly basis like make the bed, do the dishes, etc. If they do those things for x amount of time, they get something they really want - you can discuss the reward. Sometimes this helps a habit form, even after the reward is removed. It's worth a shot. I would advise, though, not making the reward too crazy expensive unless you have them do the chart for a really long time (couple of months or so) so that you aren't shelling out a lot of dough each time you decide the chart is needed, ya know? Anyway, couldn't hurt to try. :)
Thanks for stopping by Fibro, Fit and Fab! and taking the time to comment on my post, too. I appreciate it!
Have a great day!
I'm probably one of the most anal retentive, organized people on the planet. My daughter is great about cleaning up her toys 50% of the time and my husband is a clutter bug. I think at this point it would be easier to just get my own apartment and only see my family in public places where their messes and clutter doesn't drive me insane. I've only tried nagging my husband into submission. It hasn't worked yet, but I'm really excited about the prospect of it!
Stopping by from SITS
We don't have to have you go on A&E Hoarding do we? I like to stay organized. The key is not to wait until things get out of control to begin cleaning. Start with one room, then another, and then another. Every item in the room should have a designated "place". Once you use that item return it to its designated "place." That's a good start. #sits
Ahhh yes. The lovely CHAOS (cant have anyone over syndrome). I have had it for years. asking anyone to understand it will not happen unless they have lived it. And I have. I decided several things as I struggled to keep it together. 1. No one else was going to do it. 2. Its MY HOUSE and i want to be proud of it. 3. Get rid of the stuff. It has taken me several years but I can say , although not perfect, its managed. Message me anytime Jen!
